Snowdrop Week at Burnby Hall Gardens
Related Attraction
Between Monday 10th and Wednesday 19th February, Burnby Hall Gardens are inviting visitors to focus on their new collection of nearly 100 individual varieties of snowdrops planted over the last couple of years. Head Gardener, Jill Ward has sourced and planted examples of Galanthus (snowdrops), primarily in the Rock Garden and Walled Garden. Each is subtly different and is labelled accordingly.
“Our event is a bit different in that we’re not offering huge coverings of snowdrops”, says Peter Rogers, Assistant Estate Manager. “Instead, our focus is on the individual plants in the collection which have been planted and labelled by Jill and her team, and we hope that anyone visiting the Gardens over this period will be able to learn a little more about these fascinating flowers.”
Between 11.30 and 12.30 on Wednesday 12th and Wednesday 19th February, Jill Ward (Head Gardener) and Peter Williams (Gardens trustee and horticulturalist) are giving themed talks. These are entitled “Snowdrops for Beginners” (Jill Ward) and “The Story of the Giant Turkish Snowdrop – Galanthus elwesii.” (Peter Williams), each lasting approximately 20 minutes.
Winter prices apply, and anyone who would like to attend these just needs to check in with the volunteers at the events table in the Gardens on the day.
