A Brief History: Designed by architect Sir Terry Farrell and built as part of the UK National Lottery's Millennium Commission project, The Deep is a conservation and education charity as well as a public aquarium. Open since 2002, the aquarium is dedicated to increasing people's enjoyment and understanding of the world's oceans, and has welcomed nearly 10 million visitors to date. 

Hidden Gems and Interesting Facts: Home to over 3,500 animals, The Deep takes visitors on a journey from the shallow tropical lagoons to the darkest depths of the coldest oceans through a variety of habitats and interactive zones. Endless Ocean, the largest exhibit, is over 10 metres deep and holds a whopping 2.5 million litres of water and 87 tonnes of salt!

Opening Hours: The Deep is open every day from 10am-6pm (last entry 5pm) except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Pricing Information:

Each standard admission ticket to The Deep is an Annual Pass! Ticket prices are as follows:

Adult: £21

Child (aged 3-15, must be accompanied by an adult): £16.25

Student (aged 16-18, must be in full-time education and provide a student ID card): £19.50

Senior (aged 60+): £19.50

Under 3’s and Essential Carers are free entry.

Facilities: Stop by the main café, ‘The Plaice’ for delicious hot breakfasts, meals, sandwiches, cakes and snacks. Or, bring along a picnic and recharge your batteries at Picnic Place, halfway around the aquarium. Pop to the Deep-Artment store at the end of your visit for beautiful gift ideas and marine souvenirs to take home!

The Deep’s main car park is situated outside the entrance, and there are several overflow car parks off the surrounding roundabout. 

Accessibility and Disabled Facilities: The Deep takes pride in being a fully wheelchair accessible aquarium, with lifts and accessible toilets on every floor. There is also a Changing Places Facility on the ground floor, accessible via RADAR key. Wheelchairs are available to hire free of charge for visitors, along with rollators and tri-walkers. Accessible parking is free of charge, please display your blue badge in any parking space.

Sensory packs are available to borrow from The Deep’s Reception team and Quiet Spaces can be made available. 

Assistance & Emotional Support Dogs are welcome at The Deep.
